We won't get wet!

We had a barbecue last weekend and had some friends over. While we were grilling, the kids were drawn to the pool (again.) I know my last post covered pool playing time, but this post is mostly for documentation sake.

The kiddos watching Daddy play a game on his phone:

 Watering the sidewalk of course:

We are in full on prep mode for our trip and my posts are probably going to be kind of short or boring, (if there is any at all,) for the next little while!

I am so excited and apprehensive!

Thanks to everyone that is continuing to send encouragement and reminding me what I need to focus on.

Cooling off

Finally a week and a half ago, we had warm enough weather to bring out the kiddie pool!

(I know some of you who dealt with the heat wave that hit the most of the country, are shocked by this, but for those that don't know, we live higher up in a coastal community and while EVERYONE around us can have 10-15 degree warmer temperatures, sometimes it takes awhile for that marine layer to burn off and it's just too breezy.)

And I am a mean mommy.

So I went two glorious days back to back wearing out the kids for nap time ;) and getting my tan on!

Hash Brown Casserole

(or Cheesy Potato casserole)

Ok if I was a cool blogger I would have a picture of the particular casserole I make, but since I'm not, I found a picture that looks similar to my finished project.

-2 cans condensed cream of potato soup

-1 cup of sour cream

-1/2 cup of milk

-1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt

-1 package of frozen cubed hash browns. (The original recipe calls for the hash browns to be frozen, but I prefer to take the bag out of my freezer earlier in the day to let them thaw a bit. I think that the potatoes still tend to be too hard if I don't. Not only that, the casserole takes longer to bake because of the frozen hash browns.)

-2 or 3 cups of shredded cheddar cheese. (depending on how cheesy you want it to taste; I have an obsession with cheese.)

-1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese. (I have made it with or without, tastes fine either way.)

-2 cups of corn flakes (cereal)

Preheat oven to 350.

In a large bowl combine the soup, sour cream, milk and garlic salt.
Then add potatoes and cheddar cheese; mix well. Pour into greased 13x9 inch casserole dish.
Top with corn flakes and Parmesan cheese. Cover and bake for 40-45 minutes.
Remove cover and brown for an additional 10-15 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

Note: I have added cubed ham, cut up bacon, or broken up breakfast sausage, (all pre cooked,) to give it a different twist at times. Works great for dinner or breakfast. All in all it's not the healthiest of meals, but it sure falls in the comfort foods category and is TOTALLY yummy!!

And Scene/Loving the Little years

Alright, Pity Party over!!

I have been way too sensitive lately and taking things too personally.
I am straying away from one of my beliefs that it's better to have a smaller group of genuine friends, than a whole bunch of fake friends or ones that don't have your best interests at heart.
I've let the competition seep into my blogging life and it's left me feeling inadequate!

I been editing some old old posts lately and it's amazing how "innocent" they were back then because I was focusing on updating close friends and families instead of trying to get more followers.

Thank you THANK YOU to all that commented with encouragement yesterday.
They all meant a lot to me and proved that my friends are the best!!

On another note, I am finally getting around to reading more of a book that a friend sent me last year, and it's really helping to put the tough motherhood years in perspective.

Here is an excerpt:

This is something that I am sure every mother has heard about. You just need a little time to yourself. A long bath, some time to do your nails, getting your hair done, or going shopping for the day. We all need a little time off once in awhile. My husband likes to send me out to go look at yarn or have coffee with some friends. And all these things are great, in so much as they leave you refreshed for the work you do.
Taking a little time for yourself is absolutely needed. I remember the first time that having the twins threatened my morning shower. They just needed me, and needed me, and needed me until it was getting pretty late, and I hadn't gotten out of my pajamas. Then suddenly I had an idea. I would just put them in their crib and take a shower. They could cry for a few minutes, -they were fed, and clean, and they would be all right. I was not fed or clean and I would not be all right. So I popped them in their crib and said "I'll be back in a few minutes-have fun!" and off I went. As I recall I took a speed shower and then read my Bible for a few minutes.
All this to say, I am officially on the record in favor of "me time." It is necessary and fabulous. It isn't good for the kids to have a frazzled and un-showered mother, so by all means get that kind of thing done. Find a way. Turn on a cartoon if you must-it isn't the end of the world.

Honest Monday??

Lately I have been getting a little bummed about my blog,
(proving I care more about what people think then I let on....)
Do you ever wonder why you lose old followers/commentor's??

It seems like even though my blog has grown like crazy in the last year from what it once was, I've lost a lot of the people that commented before that were faithful readers.
I appreciated their encouragement, insight and I always tried to return the blog love.

I also don't understand while even though I follow and comment on a lot of either people's blogs they just don't care to follow back....

I have to remember though, why I created Life of a Military Family.....

We were having trouble staying connected with certain relatives/friends and I was hoping it would be a peek in our day to day lives for them.

So why does it seem to eat at away at me that strangers don't want to follow me
or people stopped following??

Is it because I don't talk about fashion or post recipes enough??

Is it because I'm a military wife?

Is it because I'm a stay at home mom?

Is it because I am an odd female that likes sports too much??

Is it because I don't do giveaways??
{I tried once...I got three responses.}

*******
Ok, it's time to shake it off, keep my head in the game and quit worrying about it....

I can't be someone I'm not and I know the best way to make my blog real is to keep it real!

I'm a SAHM mom and proud of it!

I'm a USMC wife and proud of it!

I'm kinda a tomboy and proud of it!

I'm a conservative and proud of it!

Most importantly I'm a follower of Christ and a born again Christian and extremely proud of it!!

Padres game 7-8

J and the kids were sick pretty much the whole week of his leave over the 4th, so we didn't get to go out and do anything. I was bummed, but oh well, what can you do!
By the time the weekend after hit, I was itching to get out and do something, so at the last minute we booked tickets for the Padres game on Sunday July 8th.

The Cinncinati Reds were in town and it just happened to be USMC appreciation day, go figure...

It was a hot sunny day and I wasn't sure where our seats would be so I dressed everyone for warmer weather and brought blankets and jackets for the kids. But I kind of spaced bringing anything extra for J and I. He did ok, but needless to say I froze!

 My mini me photographer:

The rest of the pics are all her handiwork! :)
 {I thought this one was pretty darn good!}

The Padres lost and all in all it wasn't the best outing for our family....I think because the kids were getting over their colds, they just weren't in the mood to sit down and watch a game. Turtle whined about everything and Monkey just bounced back and forth between seats.
But it's baseball, you can't really go wrong!! :)
